Spotlight on Owen Monday, Jr.

Owen Monday, Jr. joined Toastmasters because his manager thought it would be good for his leadership journey. Turned out she was right! He credits Toastmasters for giving him leadership opportunities that helped develop his public speaking skills.

“Toastmasters gives you the training needed to take your abilities to the next level and allows you to expand your knowledge in the world of public speaking.”

Owen works for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), assisting businesses coming into Michigan. He also runs his own small business, Let Monday Help.

He has held offices as President for both Secondary to None and Southwest Advanced Toastmasters clubs. He has also held office for District 62 as Area Director, Division Director for both C and W Divisions, and on the Trio as Club Growth Director and now Program Quality Director for the upcoming Toastmasters year.

“I enjoy spending time with family and doing activities that are fun and exciting like taking trips and riding my motorcycle when I get a chance. Another thing I love is enjoying life by simply sitting on the back deck with a scotch and a nice cigar.”

I joined Toastmasters in February, 2016 because I wanted to learn how to feel comfortable speaking in public and talking about my new art business called Since then I have given speeches to large and small groups, recorded webinars for online distribution and held workshops for artists who are interested in learning what I know about the "business of art." Toastmasters has helped me to become comfortable in any environment and to take on leadership positions with success. I had no idea how far Toastmasters would take me and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to learn and grow with the encouragment of fellow professionals. For the Toastmaster year of 2019-2020, I was awarded Toastmaster of the Year after taking on many leadership roles at the district level.
