Speech Contests

Fall Season

Due to changes in the Toastmasters International policy and the roll-out of Pathways, there will not be a fall conference for 2017 and, therefore, no fall speech contests.

Spring Season

Each spring we conduct 2 contests; the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation Contest. The International Speech contest involves a 5-7 minute speech and is open to members who have completed at least 6 speeches within the Toastmasters program. The contest starts at the club, winner(s) proceed to the Area contest, then Division, then District, then Semi-finals, and finally the Finals. The District contest is held during the Spring Conference. The semi-finals and finals are held at the Toastmasters International Convention.

We also hold an Evaluation contest during the spring season. The Evaluation contest is open to all current members. In this contest, a Target Speaker delivers a 5-7 minute speech, the contestants are then sequestered for 5 minutes to prepare their evaluation notes, and then the contestants are brought back into the room one at a time to provide their evaluation. The winning evaluator(s) move on from their club to the Area contest, then Division and finally the District contest. The District contest is held during the Spring Conference. Additional resources for conducting the contests are further down on the page.

Competent Leader Manual

Note that there are projects within the Competent Leader manual pertaining to both chairing a club contest, and with helping out with a club contest. Please take advantage of the opportunity to develop your skills and gain educational credit for it.

High Performance Leadership

Anyone chairing an Area, Division, or District contest should consider wrapping a High Performance Leadership Project (HPLP) around those efforts. You can obtain an HPLP packet from the Toastmasters International online store. Note that doing so requires some additional lead time to begin the re-assessment and vision portions of the HPLP prior to pushing on the actual contest efforts.
