District 62 has partnered with Toastmost.org, a club website service based on the popular WordPress software, to support help clubs modernize and make more effective use of their club websites. The district’s own website is also supported by Toastmost, which includes features for event and email marketing as well as more club-specific functions like managing meeting agendas and signing people up for roles. A good club website should help you market your club, recruit new members, and organize your meetings.
We’re planning to make this the first of several workshops covering different topics. In this introductory session, Toastmost’s creator David F. Carr will cover the basics of how to create a Toastmost site and why you might want to.
While the Toastmost option is not free like the default Free Toast Host websites most clubs continue to use, moving to WordPress allows you to take advantage of much more powerful tools for promoting and managing your club. For example, WordPress sites do a much better job of automatically reformatting for display on a mobile phone — which will likely be the experience for at least half of your audience.
In addition to introducing Toastmost to clubs who have not yet tried it, this session will include Q&A time for club leaders who want to use their website more effectively.

Last week I began discussing the 7 Leadership Lessons to Forge Your Own Path by Mary Oliver. Today, I want to let you know that you can stop punishing yourself!
In Oliver’s Poem entitled Wild Geese, she writes “You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”
In other words, you need to allow yourself to be yourself and not apologize for it. Allow yourself to love what you love, do what you need to do and be who you are.
Do you have the space to be who you are at home or at work? What about Toastmasters? In Toastmasters we are encouraged to not only be who we are, but to develop those skills in leadership and speaking. Do you want to develop who you are? If so, you are in the right place. If you want to learn about relationship or mentoring skills, consider being a part of this year’s District Executive Committee as an Area Director. This role will help you do exactly that.
Attention Toastmasters from Genesee!
How many times have you thought of the perfect response long AFTER you gave a subpar answer you would rather forget?
Probably more often that you would like to remember.
Being able to craft cool, confident and coherent responses to impromptu questions is a skill we can all use.
Our upcoming Open House is designed to show participants how to develop this skill.
Please invite your friends, family and associates to our Open House on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 7:30 AM.
